Revolution of the mind! THERE IS ANOTHER WAY!

31 Jan

Sorry for the delay in this post, but due to working yesterday, I didnt really have chance! Yesterday, in addition to his appearance on Andrew Marr, Ed Balls wrote an article in the Independent- http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/commentators/ed-balls-same-old-tories-still-doing-it-maggies-way-2198368.html , in which he states the tories are up to their old tricks as “The relentless tax hikes and budget cuts are a high-stakes political strategy taken from Mrs Thatcher’s guide to winning elections.”

He is bang on when he says “we need to re-think. There is an economically more credible alternative to what this Conservative-led Government is doing. We need a plan that puts jobs and growth first. That’s why Ed Miliband and I are demanding a repeat of last year’s £3.5bn bank bonus tax to invest in growth and job creation this year, alongside a slower, steadier pace of deficit reduction. As Ed Miliband rightly said at Prime Minister’s Questions this week, without growth you can’t get the deficit down.”

What we need is a challenge to the hegemony in the media that these cuts are necessary, as the figures show this gamble is not paying off. Like a Jenga tower, if you take out too much, the tower collapses. We need growth, growth in jobs and cuts at a slower pace than at present. We need an alternative of hope and growth not decay and despair. I call for a challenge this yarn of the government. I call for a REVOLUTION of the MIND!

We’re looking for a revolution,

A revolt of a differing kind,

No trading of fists and batons,

Not one of blood on the body, a revolution of the mind.

A revolt against the broken promises of the blue and yellow tories,

Against the hegenomy, the orthadoxy, the same old stories.

Against the fear, let us bring some hope to banish despair,

We need to grow again, not cut the roots,

To this barren field we need the lifegiving shoots.

To challenge this dogma we need a revolt of a differing kind,

Instead of anger and violence, a revolution of the mind!

U-turn in the air??

Some interesting developments emerged today as, it was revelaed that Lib Dem energy secretary Chris Huhne told the Daily Telegraph the spending reductions due to be outlined on 20 October were not “lashed to the mast”.

Accordint to the story on BBC news , he implied that public sector cuts could be scaled back if economic conditions deteriorate or improve, seeming to be at odds with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander who told the Scottish Liberal Democrat conference the planned cuts were “unavoidable”.

Huhne’s comments come amid concern “from some economists that the UK is still susceptible to a return to recession and that the £83bn cuts programme, due to be detailed in the comprehensive spending review, could worsen matters.” and the BBC political correspondent Mike Sergeant said this that this “appeared to be a slight softening of the harsh language ahead of the spending review,” from message from the prime minister and the chancellor who thus far implied that the planned cuts were unavoidable.

Hmm, this seems very strange, such a profound dievrgence on what is a key pillar of the coalition’s policy. My guess would be that such a softening of the cuts language could be a response to the public outrage at the shambolic plans to cut child benefit with its gaping loopholes. I really hope that Ed and the rest of the shadow cabinet help to expose this apparent divergence in policy and exploit it, exposing the weakness of their con-dems ideological reasoning for the cuts. How can a government continue to function in the NATIONAL INTEREST if they cannot agree what this entails?

Mr Cameron, you say “it takes two” , yet a government in two minds as to what is in the national interest is indecisive at best and incompetent at worst!

Indecision reigns,

Byzantine scheming in the corridors,

You change your mind like the wind,

Warm breezes give way to galeforce, to change again.

Careless talk costs lives,

You act with the rashness of youth,

Your words attention grabbing, yet empty, skin deep,

How can you rule a united country,

When your mind is cleaved in two?

This just gets worse and worse!

I thought i’d take the opportunity to bring your attention to the blogpost of a good friend Andrew Gwynne MP about the Osborne child benefit plans whih he unveiled yesterday, http://tinyurl.com/36r5d5m .

Due to the complete rashness of yesterdays child benefit policies with its big anomoly regarding the single earner or single parent earning £44000 and not getting their benefit whilst a combined income of £80000 could possibly still get it, I didnt think things could get any worse. Well they did it again today!

Today it was announced by BBC that the coalition plans to introduce a tax break for married couples before the 2015 election. FACEPALM MOMENT! I can see it now, people getting married or possibly staying with abusive spouces, just for a tax break! Seriously what are they thinking. As someone on twitter said before, what a stupid moralistic waste of money and I echo his sentiment. People in our modern age live in all sorts of relationships, we don’t have to be married in order to have a family. It seems they are shoving their old fashioned morailty down our throats. I say no, they should stick it somewhere else! God only knows what mad cap scheme they will come up with next!

The war has started,

Bombarded as we are,

Shaken as we are,

We must fight back,

Defend what is our right before nothing is left,

Nothing!

Money their only obsession,

Their passion, their only joy,

We made to suffer while they play with the treasury,

Their shiny new toy.

If ever we needed a light in this darkness, the time is now.

Will our new messiah stay silent?

Will he step forth to defend us, to lead us?

Time is running out i fear!

Tick tock!

TUC’s satyagraha!

12 Sep

My good friend and fellow blogger, A very public socialist  http://averypublicsociologist.blogspot.com/2010/09/this-is-what-progressive-austerity.html  has blogged about the TUC readying themselves for a battle.

He states that the

TUC launched a verbal shot across the government’s bows earlier today, evoking the imagery of the poll tax struggle and promising a campaign of civil disobedience, protests and industrial action to see their cuts off. To coincide with its warnings, the TUC has released a substantial report in defence of public services.

When George Osborne unveiled his so-called emergency budget in June, he attempted to cloak his programme of class warfare in flowery progressive language. But thanks to the TUC’s work, the graph below (from page nine of the report) shows how the pain of public spending cuts will likely be distributed across income groups.

The first act of a war is to expose the enemy and in this case, they have,  exposed what effect their cuts will have on the most vulnerable. Shattered is the myth that they are “progressive”. I for one support my brothers call for action. I see the French striking for what they belive in, against rasing the retirement age and I admire the fraternity the people have, with people being interviewed as saying basically, well done for them standing up for hat they believe. My friend mentions that civil disobedience may be a tactic of the TUC. I say, if it worked for Gandhi to bring down the Raj, it can work here in a fight for our rights.

LET THE WAR COMMENCE AS THE CON-DEMS HAVE AREADY DECLARED WAR!

Time for another SALT MARCH methinks!

WAR

My brothers we are at war,

We are gathering intelligence,

Their plans leaking out, showing their intentions,

Their attacks on the vulnerable laid bare.

My brothers we did not ask for this,

but their blitz is on the way,

We must make a stand, protest,

March to the very edges of the sea if we have to.

Satyagraha should be our plan of attack,

“For they may have my body,

But not my obedience!”

Lib Dem Demise

13 Aug
Ed Miliband

Ed forsees trouble in paradise!

In a Guardian article, my 2nd preference contender Ed Miliband predicts that with the growing pressure of the coalition, the Lib dems will collapse.

In the article, http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/aug/13/ed-miliband-labour-liberal-democrats , Ed states that ’the Liberal Democrats will “decline and fray” under the pressures of coalition but warned that Labour must change if it wants to win over disaffected Lib Dem voters.’

Ed makes a good point there, as I stated in my blogpost the other day entitled THE POISONED CHALICE http://anthillel.wordpress.com/2010/08/10/the-poisoned-chalice/ , in a survey conducted, voters “appear baffled by the party’s identity”, and nearly three-quarters said it was “difficult to know what the party stood for.”

This Coalition has broken the Lib Dems as many of the lib dem voters I have spoken with feel the party sold out its principles to get into power, on areas such as the VAT bombshell that they vigourously campaigned against in the election.

Whether this coalition breaks up in a messy divorce or not, (and like Ed, I think its a matter of when it will happen rather than if) I can’t see how the Lib Dems can survive as a prsty at the next election. How can they campaign against a government they have so intimately been involved in for 5 years?

RIP – Lib Dems. Enjoy your reign while it lasts!

End of the Line

He sees it clearly,

He sees the truth behind the facade,

The bitter behind the sweet,

This toxic union.

He reaches out to the betrayed,

Those dismayed by her marriage of convienience,

Her whoring ways he sees through,

Ed sees the end, we all see the end,

An inglorious end to one covered in shame!

CONDEMNING THE CON-DEMS

Lib Dem

Remember this, Nick??

Ever since this unholy alliance was created (behind closed doors!!), I have seen it as the Lib-dems selling their principles for power, like a prostitute.  The most infamous example of betrayal being their complicity in the rise of VAT, when in the election they famously warned about the “TORY VAT BOMBSHELL”.

I know all who read this will think, he’s bound to say this due to his political affiliation, but some of my friends who voted Lib-dem in the election feel betrayed and one of them even said to me that she feels ashamed that she voted for Clegg in the election. In fairness to her and those who voted Lib-dem, none of them could have foreseen that they would make a deal with the tories, and betray everything they claimed to stand for. Due to this, I have vilified them in poetry for their betrayal, trying in some way to air and give voice to those betrayed by Clegg selling his soul to the Devil.

JUDAS

Betrayed, the feelings of those who backed him,
Those who believed in him as an alternative,
A change, a chance for fairness.
Judas betrays them, his 30 pieces of silver a share of power.

He abandons his beliefs, his principles, his promises.
There goes a fairer vote, there goes delayed cuts,
An unholy allaince, a marriage of convienience for Delilah
Will he pay for his betrayal, will he pay for his duplicity?

The Storm

We all knew they were coming,

We could sense the calm before the approaching storm.

A portent of doom,

A warning in the air.

The storm finally breaks,

The axe man cometh, beheading spending with zeal, with glee,

Once again we, the poorer carry the burden,

Once more, the makers of the mess get off scot-free.

Indeed, he gives with one hand and punches with the other,

Punches again, harder and harder.

Pilate surrounds himself,

Seeming to wash his hands, pass the blame,

Whilst his lovers ‘let the blood be upon their hands.’

The waiter nods his head contently,

Shame upon him who sells his values, his soul for power!
