Stand- with power should come responsibility!

Ed- 'powerful must take responsibility'

Today, whilst the hacking scandal resulted in more resignations, Ed Miliband stated in a speech that the ‘powerful must take responsibility’ in order for such an outrage such as this abuse of trust to never happen again. I have been really impressed by Ed’s tenaciousness on this issue and the fact that throughout, it has been HE who has led the discourse on this, such as calling for the inquiry and today calling for the recalling of Parliament on wednesday to debate. In contrast, Cameron has been on the backfoot, tainted by his associations with Coulson and News International and many have speculated as to whether his judgement and his very position should be reviewed. Where this will end and what happens next is anyone’s guess, however I hope that in the future, MP’s will stand up and challenge anyone or any business who has done wrong in the national interests. Power should come with responsibility and I dedicate this poem from my future collection in the hope that no person should ever be regarded as untouchable by our Members of Parliament ever again.

Stand (MP)

You who speak for us,

You whose purpose is to stand up for us,

I emplore you to stand!

Against the toxins of corruption that plague the land,

I urge you to stand!

Bring honour to your name,

Bring the guilty to book,

The mighty humbled in shame,

I beg you to stand!

Stay faithful to the sound of our voice,

Escape the shackles of fear.

The line is drawn right now, here,

Now is the time to make your choice,

For me, for us,

STAND!

Murdoch in the dock?

9 Sep

I was directed to a very interesting article today on the New Statesman site which in the light of the phone hacking scandal made very interesting reading- http://www.newstatesman.com/blogs/public-accounts/2010/09/rupert-murdoch-account-held

The article states that , “with the Standards and Privileges Committee launching another fresh inquiry into the affair, there are demands for Rupert Murdoch to be called to give evidence. The NotW has hit out today with a statement describing the saga as “intensely partisan” and the line is that this is Labour MPs having fun. But my sense is that at long last, and very slowly, Murdoch’s influence may be very slightly waning in Westminster. True or not, if Murdoch is called, this would be the first time any real accountability has been applied to Murdoch by a British body politic over which he enjoys such influence.”

When the News of the World states that this is becoming “partisan”, do they forget that this should be investigated as its a CRIMINAL offence? The stakes are greater now as Coulson, who may be responsible or have some culpabilty is in the heart of the government and as such, makes the investigation much more serious. I must agree with the author of the New Statesman blog that if true, this may signal that the malign influence of Murdoch on British politics may be coming to an end. I think it should be right that he be asked to testify whatever if anything, he knows. JUSTICE demands it!

Cast it out

Westminister is a blaze,

A fire bourne of injustice,

A fire raging, ready to consume,

A fire that will not be extinguished.

Bring him to justice,

Expose the truth, bring it into the light,

Expose his injustice, cast him off,

Expose his dark master’s malign influence and cast it out.

Hacker-gate! Scandal in paradise!

Oh dear Andy Coulson, it seems the spectre of phone hacking has not been exorcised!  According to BBC news, Ed Balls has now entered the row over phonetapping. Balls has sated that The PM should ask Theresa May to assure MPs that the allegations would be properly investigated.

He said “government “integrity” was at issue because the paper’s former editor was now No 10′s head of communications.” He is the latest in a series of Labour politicians to call for fresh inquiries into the claims, and to question Mr Coulson’s suitability for his current position, who include Tessa Jowell, who says her phone was hacked 28 times, and Lord Prescott, who has threatened to go to court to find out whether he was targeted.

I agree with Balls call here, this is something that seriously needs to be investigated especially with Coulson holding such a senior position in the heart of the Coalition. This is something that must be fairly investigated Mr cameron, or it will affect the integrity of your government and you can kiss goodbye to any semblance of fairness and justice that you possess! We want honesty now!! 2 poems about this methinks, hope you enjoy!

Hackerphone (inspired and based on Lady gaga telephone)

Hello hello baby you called, I cant say a thing,

my phone is the target of some phone hacking.

Wha-wha-what did you say your breaking up on me,

Be careful what we say it may be on the BBC!

Stop hacking,

Stop hacking,

I dont wanna play anymore,

Dont want my private calls all over Channel 4!

SPECTRE OF THE PAST

Spectre of his past haunts him,

Relentless, he cant exorcise it,

Elevated, he still cant exorcise it,

It pursues him like a predator.

These claims should be brought into the light,

These whispers made louder,

Whether they be truth or lies,

You cannot hide him within fortress No 10!
